Truth and Reconciliation:

As part of our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, we are asking you to help show your appreciation of the land by completing the following between September 19 - September 27:

1.Find a special rock (no larger than a golf ball).

2.While you are out enjoying nature (hiking in the forest, mountains, parks, biking by the river…), take a picture of your rock nestled in nature (see some of the examples below).

3.Please print your picture (4x6) and bring the picture AND rock to school.  We will use your picture (and rock) to support our learning about acknowledging our beautiful land.

We are thrilled and excited that our school has been adopted by Chapters Chinook! From September 13th to October 3rd, this store is going to fundraise on our behalf through donations done directly at the Chapters Chinook location. We’re also going to be raising funds to support our library through the direct fundraising page, located below. Please spread the work by sharing this link with family and friends.

https://indigoloveofreadingfoundation.givecloud.co/fundraisers/le-roi-daniels-calgary-alberta

Our school is going to receive every dollar raised to support our library and receive an additional 30% discount off books when we shop at Indigo & Chapters program donations. These funds will go long way to bringing more diverse and inclusive picture books to our classrooms.

Please help us by showing your support for our library and our school community! We look forward to surprising the staff and children at Le Roi Daniels School with all the new library books this year!  Thank you for your continued support.

In Our Classroom we
Respect Ourself - Each Other and the Environment.
We are working on displaying Whole Body Listening and understanding the difference between
Expected and Unexpected Behaviour

We had a very successful first few days of Grade 3.  The students are prepared and very eager to be back at school with their friends.

Below is a list of a few things we did during our first few days:

  • Getting to know YOU - we played a few games that required each of us to share some of our favourite things such as movies, books, seasons, holiday spots.  In addition, we had some challenging questions to answer such as "If you were a color what would you be?" and "If you were a sport what would you be?"

  • Personality Bag - each member in room 6 will share 3 items that help us get to know each other a little better.  When your child receives the Personality Bag notice, they will bring the bag home and prepare their sharing (all information and date to share will be on the notice).
  • Selecting Just Right Books from our classroom library - each morning we quiet read and we are aiming to have a few books in our desk that keep our interest for the week.  Students are welcome to bring their own books from home.  Eventually we will be signing books out from our school library.
  • Classroom expectations - as a class we discussed the importance of following procedures/expectations that create an acceptable learning environment.  Based on the student's comments, the goal in room 6  is to create a happy, safe, clean classroom where we are eager to arrive and learn and we end our day feeling successful.  As a result of our discussions and sharing of ideas, we have decided that Respect Yourself, Respect Each Other and Respect the Environment will be our classroom expectations.
  • Rock - each student selected a special rock that will be used throughout the year to help us connect and acknowledging the beautiful land around us.
  • Graphing - we collected data and displayed our data on picture and bar graphs.  Our first graph was a birthday graph that is displayed in the classroom.  When it is your child's birthday we will recognize it by singing to them and they will get to select a special birthday gift from my gift box.
Reminders:
  • Shoes - each student will need a pair of indoor shoes AND gym shoes to be left at school.  PE will begin this week and students will need their gym shoes.
  • Refer to Parent Handbook for information about shoes, uniforms etc.
  • Water bottles - labelled with child's name.  Filled with water at home and to be brought home at the end of each day to be cleaned and refilled.
  • Masks - wear one and have one extra in backpack.
  • Meet the Teacher will occur Thursday, September 9 @ 6:30 (Google Meet).
