Have a restful Spring Break.  I look forward to hearing all about your adventures on Monday, March 28

Ask your child about the learning we did this week....

Art:

We stepped out of our comfort zone and completed a continuous line drawing assignment.  Check out the fabulous results:

Social Studies:

Exports - Imports  The class was divided into countries and each "country" discussed what resources are needed to obtain the best quality of life.  Then the students had a chance to trade resources. Ask you child all about this experience.

Literacy:

We continued working on Show don't Tell writing.   Each student took part in creating posters to support this writing.

QUEST Theatre:

Quest theatre shared a wonderful play about spreading kindness to each other.  The students made paper snowballs to add to this experience.

Willy Wonka:

As the entire school prepares for our Spring Concert we had an opportunity to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with ALL the other Grade 3 classes.

A highlight of the week is the ever popular Mission Impossible.  Check out the course and ask your child if they made it through the entire course. It was a challenging course!!!

BOOK FAIR:
Another highlight of our week was the book fair.

LA:
We started writing using SHOWING not TELLING. We worked in groups and read paragraphs then matched the paragraph with an emotion.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
We completed our Jamboards. Our Jamboard included information about exports, imports and natural resources from Peru, Tunisia, Ukraine or India. Ask your child to share their Jamboard with you.

SCIENCE:
We attempted to "prove" that sound causes vibrations.  We set up an experiment using sugar, plastic wrap, a tin can and we made A LOT of NOISE.  (Some of us observed the sugar moving).

 February 28 - March 4

Ask your child about the learning we did this week......

Math:

  • We continued learning about division and dividing items into EQUAL groups.
  • Fact Families and Array Art kept us busy.

Science:
  • Pitch was the focus during our science experiments.  We used a ruler to make sound and connected this to low and high sounds (pitch).
  • We worked in a groups and created different pitch sounds by using elastic bands and a tin can.  We discovered that thick and thin elastics/tight and loose elastics create a different pitch.
  • We concluded our sound hunt, measuring sounds and reflecting on how to protect our ears.
