Thursday November 4 is Diwali - Diwali is great cultural celebration that many of our families participate in adn we would like to honor those children who celebrate this holiday.  If your family specifically celebrates Diwali, those students are invited to wear their FORMAL FANCY DIWALI celebration clothing on Thursday instead of their uniform.  We will call those students down to the library for a special photo for our year book.
If your family does NOT celebrate Diwali, you are expected to still be in uniform - this is NOT a casual day

Appreciating the Land**: we continue to visit our sit spots, make thoughtful (uninterrupted) observations and be thankful for the sounds, colors, and the fresh air around us.  Click on Check It Out to see our work.

**Please note (as pre the email sent last week): We are planning to go on a community walk next week to Flint Park (the same park we did our Adventure Running).  We will be continuing with our Appreciating the Land type activities (exploring and making observations).  Please make sure your child is dressed in proper outer wear.

Please read the email from Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Hoye with updates.  Below is information about Friday, October 29 (Halloween events).

7) HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!!   At Le Roi Daniels, we have a full school celebration and Halloween costume parade (done virtually for class viewing again this year- sorry parents not for you L) which will occur on Friday, Oct 29th in the morning. Friendly reminder that ALL Kindergarten students are attending this day.

All K-3 students are invited to wear their costumes in the morning on their way to school.  Unfortunately, students will NOT be able to change at school due to reduced washrooms and construction so please send your child in costume.  Students are able to wear their costume masks for the virtual parade and then we will be asking for those masks to be returned to backpacks for both safety and to ensure they come home for trick or treating.  Students should not bring any kind of weapon with their costume (even if it is part of it) for safety reasons – this includes – knives, swords, guns, light sabers, bow and arrow, etc.

Classes will have fun Halloween activities happening in their rooms for the morning, so parents are welcome to send a special nut free Halloween treat for their child to celebrate the day.   At this time, we are asking parents to please NOT send treats for the class.

Have a great weekend!

Please read the email sent from Mrs. Taylor:

Dear Parents,

We hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving and were able to celebrate with family and friends for the long weekend.

We do have a couple of important updates and reminders for you, so please be sure to take a moment to look at what is coming up:

1) We need your help!  Over the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in inappropriate play happening with all of our students.  We have met with all Grade 1-3 students to remind them about expected behaviour at school, in the classroom, outside, and on the bus.  However, despite the fact that our students KNOW what is expected of them, there are still poor choices being made and we have recently discovered why some of these choices are happening.

Some of our students are heavily involved with Tik Tok (social app) and are accepting challenges from posts, which do NOT promote safe and caring behaviour!

We have also discovered many of our students are watching Squid Games – this Netflix show is recommended for 17+ and is extremely violent with guns, death and gore!

We are asking for your help to please monitor what your children are accessing on their digital devices as well as have conversations with them about following expected behaviours, representing themselves well, and becoming caring and considerate citizens.  Please help us, help them be their best selves at school, outside, on the bus and at home.

Thank you!

2) School Council is Wednesday at 6:30pm.  The meeting link has already been sent out to all existing participants.  If you did not receive your link, please connect with Mrs. Hoye at nlhoye@cbe.ab.ca this month to get the link before Tuesday.

3) We have EDO Fun Lunch on Oct 27, please be sure to register and order on Healthy Hunger by Saturday Oct 23 to participate.

4) Friendly reminder to ensure you are sending your child with all appropriate outside clothing as they are participating in PE outside and we have has some students who have been chilly without the right clothing!

5) Reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday Oct 18 as it a Professional Learning Day for Teachers.

6) Uniform reminder: Please ensure your children have the correct pants for their uniform.  We still have many students coming in leggings and those are not the appropriate pants for TLC.  Students must have cotton twill DRESS pants as part of the uniform. Thank you

7) HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!!   At Le Roi Daniels, we have a full school celebration and Halloween costume parade (done virtually for class viewing again this year- sorry parents not for you L) which will occur on Friday, Oct 29 in the morning. Friendly reminder that ALL Kindergarten students are attending this day.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Andrea Taylor - Principal @ Le Roi Daniels
