Reminders about our Field Trip:

All day - Wednesday Feb. 2 - Formal uniform is required

Bring the usual snack and lunch - Once we arrive, we will have time for a snack before we go into the Telus classroom and learn about HEARING and SOUND (our next science unit).

We have 3 parents who will be helping us out - Thank you!

Ask your child about the learning we did this week....

Literacy:

  • We continued using transition words to write about a process.  This week we focused on writing directions to play a snowman math game! (see pictures below).  This game will be coming home next week...please take time to play it with your child.
  • More spelling fun using lego (see picture below).

Math:
  • Our focus was on solving open-ended math problems and learning that some math problems have more than one answer.
  • This is the most recent math problem we solved....Parents - give it a try!

Science:
  • We continued learning about erosion and how humans and weather can cause erosion.
Social Studies:
  • We learned about Services and shared our opinion about the services provided in villages and cities in Peru, Ukraine, India and Tunisia.

January 17  - January 21

Ask your child about the learning we did this week...

Literacy

  • We reviewed transition words and using these words to describe a process
  • We used transition and descriptive words and wrote about the process for building a snowman
  • We had fun using Lego to "build" our spelling words.  Can you figure out some of our spelling words?

Math
  • We are solving Open Ended math word problems with many possible answers.  For example:

  • We learned what a Net is and created 3-D shapes

Social Studies
  • We are having fun becoming Fashion Designers by creating Traditional Clothing (from Peru, Ukraine and Tunisia) for our paper people.

Science
  • We made a mess (but had fun) playing with mud, sand and water....in a scientific way!!  Using dirt and adding water we discovered layers form and each layer is made up of certain material.  We also used sand and water to learn about erosion and the harmful effects erosion can have on landforms.

Field Trip Updates:
We need a few more volunteers for our field trip to Telus on Feb. 2.
Vaccinations and Clearance is required.

Email from Mrs. Taylor:

Dear Grade 3 parents,

Your children will be bringing home some field trip forms on Monday for them to go to Telus Spark Feb 1,2, or 3 (class specifics can be found on your teacher blog and will be on the letter coming home).  If you are able to volunteer for your child's class, you have your police clearance as well as being fully vaccinated, please contact your child's teacher ASAP.   Unfortunately, if we do not get enough volunteers, we will need to cancel this amazing opportunity so please check your calendars and join us for this fun day!

Thank you

Sincerely,  Mrs. Taylor on behalf of the Grade 3 team.

Field Trip: Wednesday, February 2nd
Read Updated Information (in green):
We are planning our first out of school field trip and are very excited. As of now, our plan is to go to the Telus Spark Science centre on February 2nd. This will be an all day field trip. We will need 5 volunteers that meet the specific requirements from the CBE. If you are not sure if you meet the requirements, please let me know. If you are able to volunteer, please send me an email at rmhowell@cbe.ab.ca  If you are planning on helping out during this field trip please note: Mrs. Taylor will be scanning QR codes for proof of vaccination the morning of the field trip and Telus will also need to see proof of vaccination.  Bring a paper copy in case the QR scanner is not working.
As excited as we are, we are also being cautious about this field trip. We understand with COVID that anything can change at any given time. We will not be sending home the forms until January 24th, so we can keep a close eye on protocols and mandates. If you have any questions, as always, please let me know!
