Math/Art - We discovered many 3-D shapes in the real world including 3-D shapes in the food we have donated to the Calgary Food Bank. Click on Check It Out to see some of our work.

Science - I ๐Ÿ’— Rocks and Mineral.  We were provided a variety of rocks to sort into different categories. Click on Check It Out to see some of our discoveries. 

Social Studies - We continued to worked on our Jamboard that shows our understanding about the landscape in Ukraine.  You will notice a Celebration sheet that was sent home on Nov. 25 - Please complete this and return it with your HW (or sooner).  We will use this information to help us with our next project....Traditions and Celebrations๐ŸŽ‰ 

Calgary Food Bank/Leadership - The Grade 3 classes are promoting understanding about the importance/purpose of the Calgary Food Bank. Click on Check It Out to see our "growing" bar graph and food collection.  

LA - We completed our simile booklets and our Bio poetry.  Click on Check It Out to see some of our work. 

 November 15 - November 19 

WOW...
We have briefly spoke about our Grade 3 leadership opportunity to promote food donations for the Calgary Food Bank.  Students are already bringing in non-perishable food. This campaign will run Nov. 22 - Dec. 13.

LA - learning how SIMILES can help add description to our writing.  Click on Check It Out to see some of our simile creatures.

MATH - continued our learning about increasing and decreasing number patterns using our hundred booklet.  Click on Check It Out to see how we used base ten blocks to build numbers then created number patterns to show our understanding. 

SOCAIL STUDIES - we used our research skills and answered questions about landscape in Peru.  We started to create a Jamboard about the landscape in Ukraine.  

SCIENCE - we had our second virtual field trip from the people at Bow Habitat Station.  We learned about adaptations and ways we can protect the environment

PE - an email with a link to our HIP -HOP dance will be sent to you soon.

1) Thank you to all of you who ordered Acorn Art.  The School raised $607.50!  

2) The official total of LOVE of READING is in....we raised $6851.14 through Chapters/Indigo. 

3) We are very excited to announce our Spring School Performance....Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!  We will be working as a school to share this performance in April, with the intention that it will be held at First Alliance Church with assigned seating and a beautiful stage.  

4) Safety Concern - If your child has a lanyard (string around the neck) to hold onto their masks, please ensure they are break away.   

5) Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on Thursday Nov 25 and Nov 26 ONLINE through Teams with a meeting link sent to your email.  Please be sure to register for your meeting time be going to your CBE Account and booking conferences.

7) Throughout the month of December, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank 

8) We are almost there.....we still need 11 volunteers for our CASINO on Dec 19 and 20.  Please consider signing up at  https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/409094baea723a2fa7-leroidaniels2 .  Your support is greatly appreciated.  Any casino volunteers that work a shift will be guaranteed preferential seating for our school wide performances for both 2021-22 and 2022-23 school year!!

LA - We read the book What Does Peace Feel Like? and connected our writing with feelings of Peace in what we see, hear, smell, taste and touch.  Click on Check It Out to see our work. It is wonderful to read that students connect Peace with "Mom's cooking," "Petting my dog," "Playing with my friends," "My family together"

Math - We continued increasing and decreasing number patterns using challenging numbers (1 - 1000).  We also looked at representing our problem solving answers using base ten drawing, number sentences and word sentences. 

Science - We concluded our science project and created fun riddles using up to 5 characteristics to describe a mammal, fish, bird, reptile or amphibian.  Then we made fingerprint art and transformed our fingerprint into the animals. Click on Check It Out to see our work. 

Social Studies
- We are loading the plane and heading to Peru. I wonder what the landscape and climate is like there?  I wonder if children in Peru like the same things we like? Click on Check It Out to see the beginning of our research notes.

✔ PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: Parents are able to book their conferences on Power School beginning at 8AM on Monday Nov15, 2021

 Art orders :  please remember to place your online art orders, following the instructions on the back of the order form by midnight on Sunday!

 Hop residency - students will be participating in a HIP HOP residency during PE this week.  We will be video taping students on Friday and sending each grade a link to share with parents as we are unable to have our usual showcase performance for parents.  Therefore - on Friday November 19 all students are invited to wear CASUAL CLOTHING to showcase some hip hop moves ( jeans, t-shirts, hats, sunglasses etc)

Math - Using numbers 1 -1000 we discovered increasing and decreasing (by 2) number patterns.  We also used the nature collected during our community walk and created increasing and decreasing patterns.  Click on Check It Out to see some of our work. 

LA - Continued to use description (triple scoop words) to describe a noun 

Science - We are almost done classifying animals.  We will have a quiz next week. Our virtual field trip (from the Bow Habitat) helped us understand the life cycle and characteristics of a trout.  We drew and labeled parts of the life cycle and had an opportunity to ask questions during this presentation.  

Appreciating Nature - Our first community walk to Flint Park was a success! We sat for 15 minutes of uninterrupted observations. Click on Check It Out to see our work.  

Social Studies - Many of use are done our project about the landscape and climate in India.  We also learned more about Diwali and admired the beautiful outfits of our classmates who celebrate Diwali.  Click on Check It Out to see our Rangoli designs.

๐ŸŒบ Remembrance Day - Wear your formal uniform on Wednesday, November 10 (and on Monday).  If your child is a Brownie, Guide, or Scout they are welcome to wear that uniform instead if they wish.  The Grade 2 classes will host this assembly.
